Dr. Eon Petty's place in history may go from punch line to Visionary.
As the dig at Forgotten City continues, not yet all the archeologists and excavation team subscribe to the "Alien-Monkey Theory" but those that do, along with visiting scholars, agree that the partially unearthed temple-like structure, and surrounding grounds, might not only be linked to the, still widely excepted to be fained, "Terrestrial Freewill Project", but may be the definitive proof Dr. Eon Petty spent most of his adult life in search of.
At the cost of his career, stature in the scientific community and family, Dr. Petty pursued his theory until his death in 1981. Some say it was his linking, then newly found, evidence he gathered from the budding field of DNA Sequencing and Genotyping, that indicated the possibility of a surge to the fore for medical and evolutionary sciences that very well could have made room for his theory in these legitimate fields of study. However, it was in 1979 the final blow to his life's work emerged in the form of a cult who to this day call themselves "The Church of Alien Monkey Sex". His embarrassment of the media's sensationalist approach
in linking him to the cult and the fact that research analysts and research grantors wouldn't come within ten miles of him, is believed to have caused him to fall into a deep depression and ultimately his grave at 81 years old.
In the years since his passing, it hasn't helped that the likes of conspiracy theorist and radio talk-show host Jalex Aoñes boasted to have taken up Dr. Petty's "cause". Aoñes actually claims to believe the CIA and KGB created the Church of Alien Monkey Sex during a joint operation. The purpose of which was to cause the total caseation of Petty’s work by destroying his name in order to keep the truth from the world in order to continue controlling the population with fear. He further states, “It was actually this joint effort that ended the cold war so that operatives from both nations could move back and forth [across borders] more freely”. Though this is the largest and most visible example, there are many people who have kept the name Dr. Eon Petty synonymous with the word crackpot. Even the recent, better accredited and more legitimate supporters of Petty's work, are at best viewed as operating in the outer fringes of science and worst, science fiction.
It just may be these supporters who get the last laugh as the Forgotten City excavation continues. The next few months will be interesting nonetheless.
