How could one camp contain the relaxation found within the cuddle puddle in the Sanctuary and yoga at the Rootist Temple with such wild parties a few feet away at Epyk or bumping past on a magic carpet, with art forming all around us in our temporary heaven.
Everyone added something to this creation. Whether it was handing out frosty popsicles or erecting communal shade structures, we all came together as a team with one goal: help one another have the most amazing experience imaginable. Seems to me like we won that game in a big way.
And the burn, my friends… the burn. Looking around at the spectators, casually dancing, some teary-eyed, others holding one another close, reflecting on life and love and ideals that bring us all together to the tiny canyon we filled up with our energy.
Personally I feel extremely fortunate to get to experience a bit of the backstage duties and work with such inspiring souls.
Damian was a brilliant guide who never left us hanging. Bill and Tara were happy to step up to the plate and they hit every task – including some very not fun ones – out of the park. We know we can always rely on Big E for an epic burn. John Henry and Meesh are skilled cat herders who made the event possible.
But most incredibly – Mr. Dirk Schmidhofer. I can’t express the pride I feel in watching him shoot way past success in his mission to give Las Vegas the regional burn it deserves. You really saved the day on this one, Dirk. (And what is any man without a strong woman? Thank you Holly for keeping him sane through this!)
This was my first burn and I can’t even express the transformation that occurred within me. Especially after some time in Vegas, it took me a second to comprehend what I was looking at: an area concentrated with beautiful souls who lack motive other than to love and be loved. I learned a lot about life this weekend, and I feel like a different person on the other side of it. A new person with about 200 new friends. Thank you all for this beautiful gift.
