Forgotten City First Tier Almost Sold Out
We've almost reached our first citizenship milestone: 500 citizens! There's a small amount of citizenship papers (tickets) available for purchase before the price rises from $75 to $110. To purchase citizenship for 2015 please visit http://www.theforgottencity.org/citizenship.html.
What is a Burning Man Regional Event?
You may have never been to The Forgotten City before, you may have never even heard of Burning Man either. If this is you then awesome, welcome Virgin! You are going to find that this event isn't like anything you have been to before: there is a notion of participation that is will draw you in and your best course of action is jump in head first or (if you are like me) do a little research.
First thing to do is leave expectations at the door, this event isn’t meant to entertain you or provide anything other than a blank canvas, there isn't a place to buy food, or buy drinks or buy anything: we're commodification free!
Next: Read through the 10 principles (http://www.theforgottencity.org/10-principles.html), you may not "get" them at first but you soon will and, if you have time, check out the Burning Man Survival Guide at http://survival.burningman.com/or if you are feeling lazy check out the Burning Man channel on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/burningman . Whilst Forgotten City and Burning Man are not the same they will give you a "feel" for the concept.
Ice Ice Ice
The ice is on us! At 10am on Saturday and Sunday we'll have an ice delivery which will arrive at Center Camp. Please line up for ONE free 20lb bag of ice per person. We have 200 bags delivered per day so be sure to get in line to avoid missing out.
An important part of The Forgotten City is participation: there is still time to volunteer as a greeter, ranger or be part of Forgotten City Public Works. You still have time to form a theme camp, bring a mutant vehicle, flame effect or fire pit. Check out this page to find out more: http://www.theforgottencity.org/participate.html
Volunteer for Medical
The medical team is looking for people holding First Aid & CPR cards to volunteer for a shift. If you are willing and qualified then please volunteer at: http://www.theforgottencity.org/participate.html
Bringing a generator?
Are you bringing a generator? A fire pit? Burn Barrel? Remember: you also need to bring a fire extinguisher and have it readily available and visible. Boulder City Fire Department will be out to inspect.
25 Theme Camps and Counting
Theme camps applications are due next Saturday May 2nd, so if you want to be placed and your events and information included in the guide then apply now: http://www.theforgottencity.org/theme-camp-application.html
Cathedral of Souls Last Build Day: May 9-10
Cathedral of Souls is the icon that will be burn Sunday night at The Forgotten City. If you would like to participate by helping construct it you can at 10am May 9th and 10th. We're going to finish building the sections, put her together completely, gloat at our own badassity, and then tear her apart in advance of the event. It might only take one day if enough of YOU SHOW UP AND HELP. THIS IS NOT A PARTY, IT'S AT SOMEONE'S HOME. WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES, COME SOBER AND BRING TOOLS. At Mike Cee's house (XUZA Art Car). What do I need at the gate?
The Gate will be manned by hired professional security and will be checking IDs, tickets, getting you to sign waivers and generally all the "business stuff". The greeters station is just a little further down the entrance to The Forgotten City and you'll get to have a lot more fun at greeters camp!
At Gate you will need:
- A photo ID for every person in your vehicle (To check if you are over 21)
- Your printed ticket (or on smart phone)
- Note: The name on your ticket doesn't have to match exactly with your ID (it is used for convenience and if you forget your ticket).
Gates open for everyone on Friday starting from 9am. Approved theme camps will be able to access the site on Thursday but this requires approval. Anyone who is not a core member of a theme camp or part of FPW will be turned awayThursday. Camp leads/artists please email your list of build crew to email@example.com
If you need to transfer or gift your tickets to another person you can do so automatically. Just find your email confirmation and click on the ticket you want to transfer, you must provide the full name of the person you are transferring to and their email address. They will receive a ticket confirmation email once you have completed this process.
Anchoring your Shade Structure
There are really only two options to anchor your shade structure at FC:
Spiked Rebar - If you've got a good sledge hammer then you can bash spiked rebar into the ground. 1 inch rebar works better than ½ inch and the sharper the better.
Lag Screws - With a good hammer drill and a 10 inch lag screw (about $2 from Home Depot http://goo.gl/1Pcsd) you can make light work of the hard ground. Best option is to drill into the ground first, then use a socket wrench to anchor the lag screw.
What to Bring to The Forgotten City
- Your ticket and photo ID in order to get in the gate and get your wristband
- Reusable cup, plate or bowl
- Tent and camping equipment for three nights
- Spiked rebar, garden stakes or 10 inch lag screws - 95% of the ground is very hard
- Food, drinks, sunscreen and water (there is no vending)
- Trash bag - this is a Leave No Trace event
- Head lamp - to see at night
- Bicycle with light - the area is large and great fun to ride around
- Camp Chair
